San Francisco - Alamo Square & Cable Car

Hi there,

Am Samstag sind wir mit dem Bus zum Alamo Square gefahren, wo die schönen verschnörkelten Häuser stehen. War ziemlich schwirig die zu fotografieren, hoffe euch gefallen die Bilder. Die Aussicht von dort oben (immer diese auf und ab =P) war super schön! Zudem war das Wetter an diesem Tag einfach traumhaft! Es hatte fast keine Wolken und ab Mittag war es auch im Pulli angenehm warm.

Später wollten wir dann selbstverständlich auch noch mit einem Cable Car ($6) fahren. Wir mussten etwa 40 Minuten anstehen und der Platz war nur begrenzt. Die Fahrt mit dem Cable Car vom Union Square zum Fisherman's Wharf dauert ca. 30 Minuten und ist (drinnen) stehend nicht so prickelnd. Eigentlich haben wir's nur gemacht, damit wir sagen können wir sind mit einem gefahren ;) Ansonsten kann man auch mit dem Bus zur Fisherman's Wharf fahren und bei den still stehenen Cable Cars ein Foto machen (haben wir auch noch gemacht).

We went by bus to Alamo Square on Saturday. That's the place where all the beautiful victorian houses are. The view was beautiful and the weather too! There were almost no clouds and  I just wore a sweater =) 

After we took a few photos on Alamo Square, we wanted to see and ride a Cable Car ($6). Unfortunately, "a few" other people had the same idea...we've had to wait for about 40 minutes. The ride was actually pretty lame. Since there was no more place outside and no empty seats inside, we had to stand the whole 30 minutes, while the Cable Car went up and down to Fisherman's Wharf. But now we can say we've rode with a Cable Car ;) For those who don't HAVE to ride one; just catch a bus and take some photos on Fisherman's Wharf, where the Cable Cars wait for a few minutes (we did that after the ride).

San Francisco - Chinatown

Chinatown war genau so, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Das süsse Eingangstor, die vielen Shops und die roten Lampions. Natürlich hatte es dort auch viele asiatische Leute (wer hätte das gedacht ;)) und Touristen, wie wir es waren. Die Hauptstrasse von Chinatown ging wie alle anderen Strassen in San Francisco immer auf und ab und dass nicht gerade mit wenig Steigung. Wir haben uns dann ein bisschen verirrt, als wir zurück zum Hotel wollten, da wir nicht mehr der Hauptstrasse entlang gelaufen sind. Zudem sind wir in einer nicht so schönen (und unsicheren) Gegend mit komischen Leuten gelandet, als wir den Rückweg gesucht haben. Ist aber nichts passiert und mit herumfragen haben wir es dann auch zum Hotel zurück geschafft ;) [Ich geh einfach immer und überall verloren..der Teil des Gehirns mit dem Orientierungssinn ist bei mir sicher 3x kleiner als bei anderen xD]

Im Hotelzimmer habe ich mich dann erstmal in einen der coolen Sessel "gesetzt" (letztes Bild) und mit Sandy und Sophie den Samstag ge- (oder ver-) plant =)

Chinatown was exactly how I've imagined. The cute gate, lots of shops and the red chinese lanterns. Of course there were bunch of asian people and tourists like we were. The main street in Chinatown goes up and down like all the other streets in San Francisco. As we went back we lost the orientation and somehow found ourselves in a dark place with weird people. But nothing bad happend and with a little help of some nice guys, we finally arrived in the hotel [I get lost whereever I am...the part of my brain where the orientation is must be 3 times smaller than others xD]

Back in the hotel room, I "sat" in the big comfortable chair (last photo) and planed the next day with Sandy and Sophie.

San Francisco - Hotel & City

Am Freitagabend sind wir wieder einmal zum Flughafen in Los Angeles (LAX) gefahren, um das Wochenende in San Francisco zu verbringen  [da wir nicht 14 Stunden (solang dauert die Fahrt LA- SF und zurück circa) im Auto verbringen wollten]. Der Flug war super angenehm, nur eine Stunde hat es gedauert bis wir im kälteren San Fracisco angekommen sind. Nach einer 20 minütigen Taxifahrt (~ $40) sind wir im Hotel (Parc 55 Wyndham am Union Square) angekommen. Dieses war UNGLAUBLICH cool! Wir hatten super bequeme Betten, ein nettes Badezimmer, einen riesen Schrank, TV, super bequeme Sessel (die ich am liebsten gleich in die Schweiz verfrachtet hätte) und einen super coolen Ausblick auf den Union Square, der nur ein paar Schritte vom Hotel entfernt ist. Für Hotel und Flug haben wir 380$ (via Orbitz) bezahlt. Ein guter Preis für 2 Nächte mit dieser Lage und der Ausstattung!

Wir sind haben dann gleich mal einen Spaziergang gemacht und waren super beeindruckt. Die Gebäude sind einfach wunderschön! Ich habe an diesem Abend auch das beste Abendessen seit ich in Amerika bin gegessen. Das Restaurant heisst "Café de la Presse" und war zwar etwas teurer aber jeden Cent wert. Es ist auch gleich vor dem Chinatown Gate - Morgen gibts davon natürlich auch ein paar Fotos =)

On Friday, we went once again to the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) to spend the weekend in San Francisco [we didn't want to spend 14 hours (that's how long the way from LA to SF and back is) in a car]. The flight was good and  we've arrived in colder San Francisco only one hour after boarding. After a 20 minute cap ride (~$40) we stood in front of our hotel (Parc 55 Wyndham on Union Square). The hotel was beyond cool! The beds were super comfortable, the badroom was pretty nice, there was a huge closet, a TV, beyond cool chairs (which I'd loved to import to Switzerland) and a amazing view of the Union Square, which was just a few steps away. We paid 380$ for the hotel and flight (via Orbitz), which is a really good price for 2 night in downtown!

Afterwards we went for a walk and what we saw was very impressiv. The building in San Francisco are beautiful! I also ate the best dinner ever since I've been in America, in the "Café de la Presse". It's a little expensiv but absolutely worth it! And it's in front of the Chinatown Gate - I'll show you some photos tomorrow =)

Von Freitag- bis Sonntagabend bin ich mit Sandy und Sophie in San Francisco. Ich freue mich schon riesig, da San Francisco für mich etwas ganz besonderes ist - und dass nicht nur weil ich ein Fan von Charmed - zauberhafte Hexen bin (jaja lacht nur =P). Ich liebe diese viktorianischen Häuser und bin schon sehr gespannt, ob es wirklich alles so aussieht wie auf den Bildern im Internet. Hier meine To Do Liste:

• Golden Gate Bridge
• Lombard Street
• Alamo Square
• Noe Valley
• Chinatown

Ich hoffe, dass ich euch nächste Woche von allen obenstehenden Plätzen ein Fotos zeigen kann =)

PS: Das Haus aus Charmed steht übrigens in Los Angles und nicht in San Francisco ;)

Sandy, Sophie and I are going to visit San Francisco from Friday until Sunday evening. I'm really excited, because San Francisco is something very special for me - not only because I'm a fan of Charmed (I'm serious, don't laugh about that =P) I love the victorian houses, they look so beautiful on the images in the internet and I hope they are like this for real =) 

This is my to do list for this weekend:

PS: by the way, the house seen in Charmed is placed in Los Angeles not in San Francisco ;)

From San Diego to Santa Barbara

Hi friends,

Eigentlich habe ich ja geplant im September nach San Diego zu gehen und dort ein Examenskurs zu machen. Nun habe ich mich aber dazu entschieden, von San Diego nach Santa Barbara zu wechseln.

San Diego gefällt mir wirklich sehr gut aber ich habe mich echt in den spanischen Flair der Häuser, Strassen usw. verliebt und Santa Barbara ist genau so. Und irgendwie ist mir San Diego auch etwas zu gross (hab ja kein Auto). Es wird zwar auch etwa 4°C kälter sein in Santa Barbara aber damit kann ich leben ;) 

Ich bin echt froh, dass mir die EF Mitarbeitenden von Bern aus so gut geholfen haben alles umzubuchen bzw. sie haben's für mich gemacht. Das Umbuchen des Fluges, Transfers usw. kostet mich fast CHF 1000.-. Mir ist es das wert, man sollte sich aber trotzdem gut überlegen wo man hin will bevor man bucht ;)

I planed to go to San Diego in September but I rebooked my trip to Santa Barbara, where I'm going to do the examcourse. I like San Diego a lot but I'm really in to this spanish flair thing. I love the look of the houses, the streets ect. - the way like Santa Barbara is. 

San Diego is a big city and I don't have a car. I know the weather would be better there (that's one of the reason why I chose San Diego before) but I'm okay with 4°C less too.

The employees of EF Swiss (in Berne) helped me with the rebooking (actually they did everything for me ;)). The change cost me CHF 1000.- but for me it's worth it. Of course it would be way better to choose the right place before and then stay with it ;)

4th of July

Hi lovies,

Am Mittwoch war ja der Independence Day (4th of July) von Amerika! Wir hatten keine Schule (hurra xD) und sind deshalb im Pancake House frühstücken gegangen (um 13.30 Uhr ;)). Es war köstlich aber einfach zu viel! Am Nachmittag haben wir dann ein bisschen am Pool der EF Residence gechillt, bis wir nach Hermosa Beach gefahren sind, um eines der Feuerwerke zu sehen. Die Stimmung war echt toll aber es war (für mich, die Ami-Frauen waren zum Teil sogar nur im BIKINI!!!) schweine kalt ^^ Ich muss auch sagen, dass ich echt entäuscht war. Sogar wir in der Schweiz haben grössere Feuerwerke als in Amerika (und ich dachte immer in Amerika ist alles grösser als sonst auf der Welt). Es war aber trotzdem cool und ich sag euch die Amis die geben echt alles an diesem Tag. Ich sag nur "crazy & weird" diese Amis ;)

On Wednesday it was the Independence Day of America (4th of July)! We had the day off (hurray xD), that's why we went for a late breakfast (1.30 PM) to the Pancake House in Redondo Beach. It was delicious but the portion way too big for me! 

In the afternoon we chilled at the pool of the EF Residence until we went to Hermosa Beach to see the firework on the beach. The atmosphere was great but it was pretty cold (for me..the American women wore just a BIKINI!!) But guys I have to say, even in Switzerland we have bigger fireworks! What happened? I thought in America everything is bigger than somewhere else in the world ;) 

Nevertheless, it was an awesome day with crazy & weird moments (or Americans =P) haha
