I just booked the trip to Germany!! I can't wait to visit Sophie and seeing Sandy again. I've never had so much fun as with this gals. We explored so many cities/towns/beaches in America (such as:)

Venice Beach

Laguna Beach

Huntington Beach

Los Angeles City

Santa Barbara 

and even Cancun (Mexico)

We went to the coolest events & places:

Movie Premiere of "Total Recall"

Shooting at LA Gun Club

and we had sooo much fun together, even when we just sat on the balcony and had some girls talks. No matter what, you will make lots of friends when you are in a international school and some friendships are going to last a lifetime:

Pros & Pros

Hi friends,

Ich bin nun schon seit 231 Tagen in Kalifornien und seit 90 Tagen in Santa Barbara. In 9 Tagen werde ich meine Eltern in Miami, FL treffen und in 24 Tagen werde ich Zuhause sein und den Rest der Familie wiedersehn und auch meine schweizer Freunde wieder um mich haben. 

Ich kanns nicht glauben, dass alles so schnell vorbei gegangen ist!! Ich kann mich noch so gut daran erinnern, als ich die Idea zu diesem Sprachaufenthalt hatte und wie ich ihn dann endlich planen durfte. Der erste Tag in Kalifornien war überweltigend und fühlte sich einfach nur unrealistisch an. 

Hier möchte ich ein paar Dinge auflisten, die ich an Kalifornien mag und welche, die ich nicht vermissen werde aber in der Schweiz dafür um so mehr geniesse ;) Here we go:

+ Kalifornien
Klima - bin bis im November am Strand gelegen, was uns auch schon zum nächsten Punkt führt..
Strand - die Palmen, der Sand, das Meer - herrlich!
Aufstehen - 8 Monate frühstens um 7 Uhr aufstehen (und das sowieso nur 2x in der Woche ;)
Shopping - nirgens kann man so gut einkaufen wie hier! Kleider ect. und nicht Lebensmittel..versteht sich oder?! xD
Refill - man bestellt sich ein Sprite und sobald das Glas leer ist, kriegt man es wieder voll - UMSONST!
Freundlichere Leute - sorry guys, aber die Kalifornier sind tausend mal freundlicher als die Schweizer! Vielleicht liegts auch am schönen Wetter..?
Pizza-Dings - keine Ahnung wie man es nennt aber es hält den Käse auf der Pizza von der Schachtel fern
Englisch - ich muss ehrlich zugeben, dass ich die Sprache Englisch besser mag als meine Muttersprache (Schweizer-) Deutsch
Reinere Haut - ich glaub es liegt am Wetter und am stressfreien sein
Busticketpreis - wer kann schon für 1.50$ (in Santa Barbara 1.75$) überall hinfahren wo die Buslinie durchgeht?! (zum Teil dauert die Strecke über 45 Minuten)
Free WiFi - das gibts hier fast in jedem Restaurant, in jedem Kaffe, eigentlich fast überall!! 
Alle Feiertage - die Amerikaner wissen wie man feiert und einen freien Tag zu einem langen Wochenende macht ;)

+ Schweiz
Mein Bett - ihr könnt nicht erahnen wie ich es vermisse! Eigentlich mein ganzes Zimmer... xD
Auto - in dem ich überall, zu der Zeit, irgendwo hinfahren kann (ich fahr nicht so gerne Bus auch wenns umweltfreundlicher ist)
Waschmaschine - Eine, die ich füllen kann so wie ich will und meine Kleider ganz wieder rausspuckt ;)
Toilettenpapier - 3-lagig und flauschig (haha)
Leitungswasser - welches man auch trinken kann
Job - der Geld (zum Shoppen) mit sich bringt und einem das Leben erleichtern und verschönert. Ausserdem vermisse ich es ernsthaft...das Arbeiten mein ich!
Essen - ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen wie ich mich auf (einfach irgendetwas) "schweizerisches" zu Essen freue!
Das Gesetz - die Schweizer sind da grosszügiger und lassen einem doch noch mehr Freiheiten..

Natürlich könnte ich hier auch meine Familie und Freunde auflisten aber die stehen eh alles in den Schatten... 

Bestimmt habe ich ganz viele Sachen vergessen aber mein Hirn ist voll mit Gramatik, Vokabular und anderen Nützlichkeiten für das Examen am Samstag, 1. Dezember und am Mittwoch, 5. Dezember 2012 ;) Eventuell kommt ja euch noch etwas in den Sinn (schreibt mir einen Kommentar oder eine E-Mail: denise.probst@hotmail.com)?!

I've been here in California since 231 and in Santa Barbara since 90 days. I'm going to meet my lovely parents in 9 day in Miami, FL and the rest of my family and my swiss friends in 24 days! 

I just can't believe how fast this time went by!!! It seems like yesterday when the idea for this trip came to my mind. The first day in California was simply overwhelming and it felt so unreal.

Now, I'd like to list some things I really like about California and some that I may not going to miss so much, but enjoy back in Switzerland ;) Here wo go:

+ California
Temperature - I went to the beach (only wearing a bikini) in November!! This already leads us to the next point...
Beach - the palm trees, the sand, the ocean - amazingly beautiful!
Getting up - it's been 8 months and the earliest I got up was at 7am (only 2 days a week, the rest of the time I'm sleeping in ;))
Shopping - there's no place like America! I love the stores and I'm surely coming back (with an empty suitcase and a full purse xD)
Refill - just order e.g. a Sprite and when you drank it all, get a free refill! That's how life should be...
Friendly people - sorry guys. but californian people are a hundred times friendlier than the Swiss are...it may is because of the weather ;)
Pizza thingy - no clue what the name of it is but it keeps the cheese on the pizza and prevents it from sticking on the box
English - I have to admit that I like the English language more than my mother tongue (Swiss-) German
Pure skin - I don't know if it's due to the weather, the stressless life or the air, but no pimple had been seen for a long time ;)
Bus ticket - pay 1.50$ (in Santa Barbara 1.75$) and you can ride the bus from Long Beach to LAX!! Unbelievable!
Free WiFi - provided almost in every restaurant, caffee - well acutally almost everywhere! 
All holidays - the American know how to celebrate and even better, how to extend the days ;)


+ Switzerland
My bed - you can't imagine how I miss it! Actually my whole room... xD
Car - in which you can drive everywhere you want, every time you want (I'm not really the bus-typ, even if it would be better for the environment)
Washing machine - One which I can load with my beloved clothes and get them back clean ;)
Toilet paper - soft and fluffy xD
Tap water - which you can drink without filtering before 
Job - I realized how much I actually love to work, to earn money (to spend mostly on clothes ;)) and to be independend.
Food - you have no idea how much I miss "swissish" food! 
The law - the Swiss are a little more easy going when it comes to law ;)

I don't list my family and friends because there is nothing that has even a slight chance to win against them ;) Unbeatable, that's what they are!

I'm pretty sure there is lots more but I just can't think of it right now. My mind is focued on the up coming exam on Saturday and next Wednesday! If you can think of something else, don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me a mail: denise.probst@hotmail.com

Chasing Mavericks

Hi sweet peas,

Ich wollte euch noch unbedingt von dem Film "Chasing Mavericks" erzählen, den ich letztens gesehen habe und es gleich in meine Top 3 geschafft hat. Die ganze Geschichte ist eigentlich keine, sondern Realität. Sie erzählt aus dem Leben von Jay Moriarity, einem Surfer, der so verrückt war um auf 18 Meter hohen Wellen - "Mavericks" genannt" - zu surfen und das mit 16 Jahren! Traurig aber wahr, Jay ist bei einem Taucherunfall gestorben, nur einen Tag vor seinem 23. Geburtstag.

Ich will euch aber nicht alles verraten, ihr sollt ihn euch schliesslich ansehen, den Film. Ich bin mir sicher, ihr seit dannach genau so begeistert davon wie ich.

I almost forgot to tell you about one of my new favorite movies - he made it on my Top 3 list right away! "Chasing Mavericks" tells the true story of the life of Jay Moriarity, a surfer who was crazy (or courageous) enough to surf 60 foot waves at the age of 16!! Sadly, Jay died a day before his 23 birthday, drowning in an apparent diving accident.

But I don't want to tell you everything. Just go and watch this movie! I'm sure you will love it as much as I do!

Hi lovies,

Ich bin ein super grosser Instagram Fan und wer bis jetzt ein Smarphone besitzt, aber kein Instagram App bzw. Account hat, sollte sich was schämen ;) Oder eigentlich besser, so rasch als möglich mal damit anfangen die Instawelt zu erkunden, kostet schliesslich nichts ;). Es entstehen die schönsten Bilder und es ist schon einfach von dem Aspekt her toll, dass man einfach JEDEM, der Instagram hat, folgen kann (ausser der User ist privat, dann muss man zuerst anfragen, ob man ihm folgen kann). So folge ich schliesslich 73 Leuten mit meinem Account ThisIsNissy und mehr kommen bestimmt noch ;) 
Ein paar Fotos, die mit Instagram entstanden sind, habt ihr hier auf dem Blog schon gesehen. Nun möchte ich euch aber mal was ganz ganz ganz toller oder besser gesagt süsses zeigen. Nämlich der Welpe von Lauren Conrad (manche kennen sie aus "Laguna Beach", "The Hills" (MTV), als Designerin oder als Autorin der Bücher ("L.A. Candy" ect.)). Ich folge ihr auf Instagram und bin echt froh, dass ich diese Posts nicht verpasst habe. Ist er nicht total knuddelig?

PS: das coole ist, viele bekannte Persönlichkeiten haben auch Instagram, so könnt ihr diese ein bisschen stalken =P haha

I'm a super big Instagram fan! If you own a smart phone and you don't have the Instagram app or an account yet then shame on you! LOL. Or the better idea is go and get it, it's for free. You can edit your photos there and they look just amazing! Also cool is, that you can follow everyone you like to (except the privat users, you have to request them). I'm following 73 people and more to come ;) You may already have recognized, that some of the photos you can see on my blog are acutally taken with Instagram.
But now I want to show you something absolutely adorable. Lauren Conrad's puppy! You might know her from MTV's reality shows "Laguna Beach" or"The Hills" or as a fashion designer or author of some really good books such as "L.A. Candy". I'm following her on Instagram and I'm glad I didn't miss those posts! Don't you want to cuddle this little guy all day long?

PS: the cool thing about Instagram is that you can follow celebrities too. So you'll see what's going on in their lifes too and stalke them a bit LOL ;)

US Open of Surfing

Hi friends,

Schon am Sonntag, 29. Juli 2012 waren wir in Hungtington Beach, wo das US Open of Surfing stattgefunden hat. Da ich nur wenige Fotos gemacht habe, gabs davon bisher keinen Post. Letzten Sonntag, 5. August 2012 waren wir wieder dort! =) Meine Kamera blieb aber auch dieses mal mehr oder weniger den ganzen Tag in der Tasche. Es gab einfach viel zu viele heisse Typen anzustarren xD Nein im ernst jetzt, ich habe noch nie so viele schöne Menschen auf einmal gesehen! Ich weiss leider daher auch nicht wer in was gewonnen hat...dafür gibt ja aber die Website ;)

Ich empfehle also jedem und jeder ans US Open of Surfing zu gehen ;) hihi

We already went to Huntington Beach on Sunday July 29, 2012 and couldn't resist to go again last Sunday August 5, 2012. The event? The US Open of Surfing!!! I didn't took a lot of photos on both days since I was too busy with staring at all the hot guys xD For real, I've never seen so many beautiful people on one place! Well, that's why I don't know the results of the actual competition...but thanks to the website I don't really have to remember ;)

I recommend to attend the US Open of Surfing to every man and woman ;)

Plans for the weekend

Welcome To America

Hi guys,

Ich bin ja nun schon fast seit 4 Monaten hier... ich habe mich schon an vieles hier gewöhnt, wie zum Beispiel an den Schönheitssalon, der gross mit Botox Injektionen wirbt usw. aber manchmal begegnet man dann einfach sowas (siehe Foto)!! Es gibt hier einfach nichts was es nicht gibt ;)

An dieser Stelle nochmal ein "Willkommen in Amerika" =P

OC Fair & a lot of fun

Hi lovies,

Asuka, mit der ich bis Juni in einer Klasse war, ist nach ihrem Aufenthalt mit EF nach OC gezogen und geht nun aufs Collage. Ich habe sie deshalb von Samstag bis Sonntag mit ein paar Classmates besucht. Da vom 13. July bis am 12. August 2012 die OC Fair stattfindet, haben wir den Samstagnachmittag dort verbracht. Am Abend haben wir zusammen gekocht und später naja..seht euch das Video (nach den Fotos) an ;)

Askua (she was my classmate from April until June) moved to Orange County (OC) after her stay with EF and signed in for a collage. Some classmates and I visited her from Saturday - Sunday. Since the OC Fair takes place from July 13 to August 12, 2012 we went there to have some fun on a hot Saturday afternoon. We cooked together in the evening and had..well..just watch the video above ;)
